Langroove
practise a language by actually talking

Flashcards teach words, not conversations. Langroove lets learners chat with real people and translates as they go, so a beginner can keep talking instead of freezing.

What it does

Sign up with email, build a profile, add friends and chat one to one in real time. Each person sets the language they want messages translated into, so both sides of a conversation can learn at their own level. The translation is a crutch you can put down.

How it is built

React Native with Expo, Firebase Authentication and Firestore for users, friends and messages, and LibreTranslate for translation. Logic lives in small custom hooks such as useChat and useFriendList, and each piece is documented in the repo wiki.

Shipping it

I took it through Expo production builds, an Android App Bundle and a Play Store testing track, and wrote up each step so the next build was routine.
